Pedal Repairs

Because many pedals are usually not that valuable, and many pedal repairs are straightforward, we offer fixed rates for pedal repairs, where the work is straightforward. We have defined four categories of charges:

  • The "inspection fee".   It quite often happens that upon examination, there is no fault found with the pedal.  Also, upon inspection it also sometimes happens that we discover that the cost of repair would exceed the value of the pedal, and is not worth carrying out.  The £15 inspection fee is just to cover the effort and admin overhead involved in these cases.  The inspection fee is only payable if the pedal is returned to the customer without any work being done on it, or if it transpires that a fix cannot be carried out at a price that make sense.
  • A ”simple” pedal repair costs £35 plus parts, this covers faults such as broken foot switches, toggle switches, signal input and output jacks, cold joints, loose wires, and so on.  Stuff typically found on vintage pedals.  Note that for low value pedals we discuss any caps on the cost of the repair at the time the pedals is dropped off.  If at any point the work is stopped, £35 is the minimum fee payable for the work carried out.
  • A “standard” repair is £50 plus parts.  This is primarily for analogue circuits with faulty components and/or boards.  This types of repairs are often associated with more modern pedals.  Note that it is rarely possible to assess whether a repair will fit the “simple” or “standard” tariff at the time the pedal is dropped off, so consequently, either fee may be appropriate for the completed repair.  If, during the repair, it becomes apparent that the repair will be neither "simple" nor "Standard"  but will be “complex” (see below), we will stop work and discuss the options with the customer.
  • For “complex” repairs, those involving DSP circuits, surface mount PCBs and so on, there really is no reliable way of assessing how long the repair will take or even whether it will be successful, prior to carrying out the work.  For these types of repairs, we will work on a time (£80/hr) & materials basis to a budget agreed with the customer prior to commencement of the work. If the budget is reached, or it becomes clear that the pedal cannot be fixed within budget, we will stop work and discuss the best way to proceed with the customer.  If the customer chooses not to be proceed further, the standard £50 minimum labour fee, plus parts, will be charged to cover the work carried out to this point, regardless of the whether the pedal is repaired or not.

All our repair/modification work is guaranteed for 6 months after the date of the completed repair (NOT the date of collection). This guarantee does not cover new faults with a pedal; for example if we fit a new input jack to your pedal and a footswitch fails, this will not be covered by the guarantee.

All prices referenced above include VAT.
